Eric Omondi has a whole lot of things up his sleeve in February, and he is pulling all of them off in classic Eric way.
Yesterday, the comedian, bundled up in a glass cage and being carried by suit-clad men camped by the parliament meetings on a hunger strike to implore members of parliament to pass a bill in support of local music airplay, something he has been championing for albeit in the most unique of ways.
Saying his previous modus operandi to see to it that 75% of Kenyan is played music locally had been taken lightly, he insisted he would camp outside parliament until his proposition was taken seriously. “I’m here to champion local music to be played in all media stations so am here to ensure that they will pass that bill,” he said. Omondi was last year arrested after staging a demonstration calling for the same.
Meanwhile, his antics do not end there. You know of the jested Men’s Conference concept by Kenyan men who are not the biggest suckers for Valentine’s Day? Omondi just put out what looks like a press release (real or not), inviting men to what is supposed to the 2022 edition of men’s conference and asking ‘wives, girlfriends, side chicks and Bien’ to allow their partners to attend.
“I’m writing in reference to the above mentioned. Please allow your men to attend the annual men’s conference this Sunday at Quiver Lounge…the men will be allowed to return to their homes on 15th midmorning,” reads the message.
He goes further to break down what the men will be taught this year round, among them ‘how to love’ and ‘how to treat’ women better.
