NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 4 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced on Saturday the arrest of Shadrack Kariira Ndegwa, an impostor who had been fraudulently impersonating a high-ranking senior detective from both the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and EACC.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, November 1st, at Turraco Bar, located along Thika Road.
Ndegwa had been posing as an influential officer, with alleged connections to key security and law enforcement agencies in the country.
According to police, he convinced his victims, often high-ranking officials, that he possessed the power to influence or terminate corruption investigations and investigations in their favor.
According to the EACC statement, Ndegwa duped his victims into believing that he had the authority to intervene in sensitive matters that could potentially incriminate them. He demanded substantial sums of money from these individuals, promising to protect them from any trouble.
“In negotiating for huge bribe amounts, he tells his victims that the amount needs to be sufficient to pay for his services and also facilitate his talk with bosses,” the statement read.
The EACC warned that Ndegwa would be held accountable in accordance with the law. They also encouraged anyone who may have been defrauded by this individual or any other scam to report the matter to the EACC. The arrest of the impostor is seen as a significant step in combating fraud and extortion within the country.
