DJ Pierra Makena Calls Out Female DJs Selling ‘Nudity And Not An Experience’

Celebrated Kenyan female disc jockey Pierra Makena alias DJ Pierra  is calling out female jockeys capitalizing on nudity as opposed to the art of deejaying, according to her.

In an interview with Eve Magazine, she cited  a South African DJ exposing herself in the nude recently, saying it has become a thing of female DJs to put on semi-nude displays in their shows. “See, many female deejays have turned this whole art into a nude thing. We even saw a female deejay in South Africa strip naked before thousands of fans. Yes, I also wear hot pants and all that but I feel that female deejays are selling more nudity than an experience. This must change,” she opened up.

The actress-cum-businesswoman called on said deejays to incline more towards their talent and give revelers a lasting experience, not the acrobats skimpy dressing. Her assertion was, however, met with varied reactions seeing as she is synonymous with donning scanty outfits, if her social media pictures and  show footage are  anything to go by.

Makena is the brains behind the popular drive-in concert  events, which were occasioned by the advent of the pandemic. Opening up about Park n’ Chill, her marquee drive-in concert, the turntablist said: “Initially, the idea was all about bringing friends together. It grew and bloomed into a full concert and with time, we got partners coming on board. Our 2022 New Year Eve concert in Meru was a real extravaganza and I am rearing to go this year.”

Noting that the events and entertainment scene in South Africa is far beyond its Kenyan counterpart,  Makena intimated she has plans to shift the current climate and catapult the scene, while creating opportunities for the youth while at it. “I want to employ more creative ideas into the art of events organization and deejaying as I feel that the industry has really stagnated. When I compare the growth in the industry with South Africa, I see how far behind we are. Their concerts are big and performances are powerful. We just have to do things differently this year,” added the Disconnect thespian.
