Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is set to face trial in 2025 on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, is accused of attempting to influence witnesses while in custody, according to federal prosecutors.
A motion filed on 15 November alleges that Combs engaged in “relentless efforts” to reach out to potential witnesses to “corruptly influence” their testimony.
Prosecutors claim Combs circumvented standard communication protocols by making calls through other inmates’ telephone accounts instead of using his approved contact list. Additionally, he allegedly sought to obscure his communication activities by relying on third-party services and engaging in three-way calls to reach individuals.
These actions, as outlined in court documents, constitute a breach of Bureau of Prisons regulations. Combs is further accused of directing his family to reach out to potential witnesses on his behalf. As evidence, prosecutors referenced a phone conversation between Combs and one of his sons, suggesting the rapper aimed to “blackmail victims and witnesses into silence or to sway testimony in his favor.”
Prosecutors also allege that Combs has been leveraging social media platforms to potentially influence a jury pool ahead of his trial. His history of violence, substance abuse, and prior concerns about witness tampering were factors that led to his bail being denied. As a result, he remains in federal custody in Manhattan.
Combs faces a slew of serious accusations, including multiple allegations of sexual assault, some involving minors. He was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering and, if convicted, could receive a life sentence.

The rapper’s legal team has categorically denied all allegations, labeling them “false and defamatory,” as reported by the BBC.
