Kenya’s creative sector could receive expanded financial and institutional support under the Creative Economy Bill, 2026, now before the National Assembly.
The Bill, sponsored by Sports and Culture Committee Chairman Dan Wanyama, proposes the establishment of a Creative Industry Development Fund to support the growth of creative enterprises.
The legislation seeks to provide a comprehensive framework for industries spanning film, audio-visual production and other creative fields.
It proposes the creation of the Kenya Audio-Visual and Cinema Commission, the Kenya Audio-Visual Regulatory Authority and the Kenya School of Film and Creative Arts.
The Bill also calls for greater investment in infrastructure, research and innovation, as well as the establishment of creative clusters and hubs.
Public-private partnerships would be promoted to attract additional investment into the sector.
The proposed measures are intended to provide creatives with better access to skills, infrastructure, financing and markets while strengthening the contribution of the creative economy to Kenya’s development.
