COMESA Warns Member States Against Consumption Of Kinder Joy Chocolates Amid Health Concerns

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has issued a precautionary warning to consumers against consuming Kinder Joy chocolates.

This comes just a few weeks after the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) recalled the products in the Kenyan market owing to salmonella outbreak concerns.

The trading bloc warned its member states after ironing out that the beloved products are hazardous to member states of COMESA, imploring the general public to exercise caution and that they maybe reimbursed if they return purchased Kinder Joy products. “The commission would like to inform the general public to exercise caution and avoid the purchase or consumption of the above recalled products and return them to the point of purchase for a full refund,”

COMESA adds: “The commission has also established that some Kinder chocolate products are imported and marketed in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa. In consideration of the risk, some of the Comesa member States such as Kenya, Egypt and Sudan have launched a probe into Kinder products in their respective markets.”

A recall of the product has been issued in Germany and the United Kingdom, pending investigations.

Kinder Joy products are produced by Ferrero, the world’s second largest confectionery and chocolate producer.
