President William Ruto’s daughter has continually courted controversy in the last few weeks over different statements in her unending nationwide tours.
Just when the dust was settling after the uproar caused by the controversial assertion she made about hawking smokies whilst at Daystar University, more drama has ensued over yet another contentious remark.
While in Arusha for a summit on Tuesday December, 13, Charlene introduced to the crowd various people who make up her team in what she termed Office of the First Daughter. “Before again I continue, I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya. So, I’ll start with the back. This is Mike Sagana, he’s one of my team members. He’s a politician and he’s my principal advisor in my team. And this is Jermaine Momanyi, he is the head of trade and investments at the office of the first daughter,” She posed.
Kenya has no constitutionally recognized Office of the First Daughter which led to Charlene’s words being met with immense backlash by social media users. To calm the wild fire, Charlene has issued a new statement to clarify what exactly she implied. She termed her office a private entity which she does not fund with State funds but with facilitators instead.
“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. The office runs to purely facilitate the activities of & any programs being run by Ms. Charlene Ruto. Through its independent structure and facilitators, the office has engaged various players across the country and beyond in line with some of its objectives of championing youth-based agendas and climate change advocacy,” Read her statement.
Since President Ruto’s assumption of office, Charlene has been well documented trotting the country and meeting various leaders and even flying out of the country to meet foreign luminaries.
