Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ album has been nominated best global music album for 2021 Grammy’s
Nigerian superstar Burna Boy’s album, ‘Twice as Tall’ has been nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2021 63rd Grammy Awards. This is the second year in a row that the singer is getting a nomination in this category. The Nigerian star’s album, ‘African Giant’ was nominated in the same category for this year’s Grammy’s but lost to four-time Grammy award winner Angelique Kidjo. “Another one ……. #TWICEASTALL,” Burna Boy wrote on Twitter minutes after his nomination was announced by Megan Thee Stallion.
With this nomination for the 2021 Grammy awards, he has another shot at bringing home the much-coveted award. Twice As Tall is a 15-track album which was released on August 14th 2020 and is a follow up to his critically acclaimed 2019 album “African Giant”. Burna Boy says the album is “a journey through a bunch of emotions and energies at different points in time. It has now morphed into something bigger than me. It serves as a bridge for mankind to show that we’re all different but still very much the same.”
The self-proclaimed African Giant travels through socio-conscious terrains throughout the project, harping on failed Afro-political agenda, underdevelopment, poverty, Western imperialism, among other Afro-tailored societal woes. He acknowledged that the project is an extension of his Pan-African agenda on the Grammy-nominated ‘African Giant’ album.
The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards is slated to hold on January 31, 2021 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It will recognize the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the year, running from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020.
On the other hand, the Recording Academy announced that TV host and comedian Trevor Noah will host the award show, come 2021. This would mark Noah’s first time hosting the Grammys, which will be held Jan. 31. Earlier this year Noah competed for his first Grammy Award. The 36-year-old Emmy winner was nominated for ‘Best Comedy Album’ category with “Son of Patricia” but lost to Dave Chappelle.
“Despite the fact that I am extremely disappointed that the GRAMMYs have refused to have me sing or be nominated for best pop album, I am thrilled to be hosting this auspicious event,” Noah said in a statement. “I think as a one-time GRAMMY nominee, I am the best person to provide a shoulder to all the amazing artists who do not win on the night because I too know the pain of not winning the award! See you at the 63rd GRAMMYs!”
