The 2025 Grammy Award nominations have been announced and has once again been dominated by Nigerian talent and Afrobeats with artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Tems and Yemi Alade receiving nominations.
The Grammy’s Best African Music Performance category is in the spotlight for the second consecutive year.
Yemi Alade’s nomination for her solo track “Tomorrow” represents a landmark in her career, as it is her first-ever solo Grammy nod in the Best African Music Performance category.
Grammy award-winner Burna Boy has been nominated in this category for his song “Higher” from the album “I Told Them.” This marks his second straight nomination, reinforcing his influence on the global music scene.
Davido, a familiar name to the Grammy stage. His featured appearance on Chris Brown’s song “Sensational,” which also includes rising Nigerian talent Lojay, has earned both Davido and Lojay nominations. While this is Davido’s second time in this category, it marks a milestone as Lojay’s first Grammy recognition.
Tems continues to make waves, as she garners nominations not only for Best African Music Performance with her track “Love Me Jeje,” but also for Best Global Music Album for her debut record “Born in the Wild.” Additionally, Tems has been nominated in the Best R&B Song category for “Burning,” a standout track from the same album. She stands out as the only African artist to receive nominations across multiple categories this year.
