Burna Boy is not here for the newly crowned Miss South Africa, coming off a controversial pageant that saw Chidimma Adetshina, who made the top 11 finalists, drop off the race owing to attacks on her apparent descent.
The chart-topper took to X to share his thoughts on the pageant’s outcome writing, “So after ALL that..”accompanied by laughing emojis. Before him, singer Tyla had expressed her disapproval to the bullying Adetshima was subjected to.
“I will always stand with South Africa, i just feel regardless of the opinions… She was bullied and that’s what I don’t stand for,” Wrote the singer on X.
Controversy surrounding the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant is currently at feverpitch, in spite of the fact that this year’s winner Mia le Roux already has the crown. Born to French immigrants, Roux hails from Cape Town.
It all started when Adetshima alias Chichi, dropped out of the race after heat mounted on her with questions about her eligibility proved unbearable. The 23-year-old law student is born to a Mozambican mother and Nigerian father, but has lived in South Africa her entire life.
A media storm would ensue that saw social media launch relentless attacks on the stunning model, and her bailing out only but highlighted the complex dynamics on immigration, race and identity in the country that carries a sinister history of apartheid. A vast majority of South African argued that the model was not deserving of representing their country internationally seeing as the rules of the competition demand that contestants have South African citizenship.
In a different twist, Adetshina has been invited to contest in Miss Universe Nigeria by the organizers.
