Fast-rising music group NSG (an acronym for Non-Stop Grinding) are in the country gearing up for their headline performance at the 2nd edition of the Pizza and Wine Festival.
Comprised of six members, they are a British Afro-Swing collective that have gained quite the attention all thanks to their music sound appealing to masses the world over, with hits like Petite, OT Bop and Options. Kruddz, OGD, Papii Abz, Dope Mxjib and Mojo all grew up together before heading the music away, which made it all the easier for them to work together. “We love working as a six-some,” begins Kruddz. “We agree do disagree and having known each other for so long, we know how to work through our differences,” he adds.
It is the group’s first time in Kenya and they admit they are already loving the experience. Not their newest African experience seeing as 3 of them are of Nigerian descent while 3 are of Ghanaian descent, they proudly speak of their love for the heritage. “We have embraced our heritage, and that is part of the reason we are here. We are looking to change the perception of Africa by the world, whilst in our quest global for domination,” says Mojo.
With tickets to the Wine and Pizza festival already sold out, it goes without saying that their popularity is indisputable. “We treat music as a business. With the right pushing and investing, everybody can blow up,” says their rep. Our advice to anyone currently getting started is to not give up. You would never know what lies on the other side if you do not try,” they unanimously agree.
Do they ever feel torn between catering to their different audiences? “Not at all. Our music merges all the audiences so that never happens,” he adds. They nonetheless add that the European industry is ultra structured. “You get paid to do radio appearances, in the club…the works!” adds Mojo.
Two mixtapes already released, they say they have yet another that drops next year, and insist it will be their best work yet. Enter their fashion sense. How do they manage to look so good? “We have our stylists to thank for that, we will not take that credit,” says Abbz amid laughter. A collaboration with Nigeria’s Patoranking titled Suzanna is one of their new music dropping soon, they adamantly promise.
As regards their Saturday performance, they promise it will be one for the record books.
