Business mogul Rihanna’s reign won’t let up! She is a now national hero in her native country of Barbados.
Barbados declared the award-winning singer Rihanna a national hero at its republican celebrations in her hometown of Bridgetown.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that the 33-year-old would be conferred with the honors of National Hero of Barbados. Rihanna was called up before the crowds to be congratulated by Mottley, reported Reuters.
“May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honour to your nation by your works, by your actions,” Mottley told Rihanna, a reference to her 2012 chart-topping single ‘Diamonds’.
The multi-talented star whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was previously named ambassador to Barbados in 2018.
Rihanna – who was born on the St Michael parish of Barbados – found fame in 2005 after being spotted by a record producer and has since gone on to become one of the most successful female artists of all time with sales of over 250 million and recently reached billionaire status through her Fenty beauty brand.
As reported by Capital News, the Caribbean Island nation of Barbados on Tuesday 30th November 2021, declared itself the world’s newest republic, lowering Queen Elizabeth’s flag as it severed colonial-era ties to the British throne.
Barbados, famous for its idyllic beaches and love of cricket, won independence from Britain in 1966.
