TikTok creator Azziad Nasenya has trademarked her name and a logo bearing her first name.
She started the process of getting her name trademarked in November last year, after which she had to wait 60 days for Kenya Industrial Property Institute – an intellectual property rights government parastatal- to advertise in their journal so in the event that any parties are in opposition of the trademark, they can come forward in the given time.
The logo and name trademark, she says, will be for use in clothwear, footwear and gear, now that there was no opposition on them.
A trademark is a word, name, graphic, phrase, color, sound or even a smell that identifies a single source of goods or services. Trademark applicants are further required by law to prove the secondary meaning of the trademark, as fame is not a consideration in the award or use of trademarks.
The trademark will be valid for a decade after which it will be renewed if she wants to, per the stipulations.
