An autopsy has confirmed that Daniel Koikai, the father of the late reggae artist Njambi Koikai, died due to excessive bleeding from two deep, self-inflicted neck wounds.
The examination was performed on Tuesday, June 18, by government pathologist Grace Mirigo at the Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home.
The autopsy findings indicate that Daniel Koikai used a knife to inflict the fatal cuts, leading to severe blood loss and his subsequent death.
Tragically, Daniel Koikai passed away on the same day as Njambi’s burial ceremony at Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi. Earlier, he had paid tribute to his late daughter, expressing deep remorse and seeking her forgiveness.
In his eulogy, he wrote, “Dear Njambi my daughter, the time has come for me to atone for my acts of omission or commission on your final journey from this world. It has been one of the most difficult episodes in my life, especially for your close family members; your mother, sister, aunts, uncles, colleagues in the media, and friends both in and out of the country.”
Authorities from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Ruiru revealed a text message Daniel sent to Njambi’s sister shortly before his death. The message read, “I’m sorry, It had to come to this.”

Daniel Koikai’s body was discovered on June 14 in his Tatu City apartment in Ruiru, holding a kitchen knife in his right hand, suggesting it was the weapon he used.
Detectives believe that Daniel’s decision may have been influenced by feelings of guilt over his absence during critical moments in his daughter’s life.
