It has been exactly two years since late NBA star Kobe Bryant and late daughter Gianna Bryant’s were claimed by a fatal plane crash.
While the world celebrates and remembers their lives, an artist named Dan Medina has honored the the father and daughter with a statue erected at the crash site in Calabasas. According to TMZ, Medina created the statue, an image of Kobe and GiGi, then transported it to the scene in his quest to honor the two.
The 160-pound statue shows depicts father and daughter donning basketball regalia and glancing at each other lovingly, as was seen in most of their actual pictures on and off the court. “This is all on my own, no one asked me to do it. On this day, the second anniversary of the accident, I decided to bring it up from sunrise to sunset and create a bit of a healing process for fans,” said Medina of his sculpture.
Engrave on the statue’s pedestal are names of all 9 victims of the 2020 crash, as is Kobe’s popular quote, “Heroes come and go, but legends are forever.”
