Sultry RnB singer Ari Lennox is an integral part of the new generation of female singers of the genre currently making waves with their twist on the genre.
Her RnB staple Pressure has set her apart from her counterparts and is her highest-charting release hitherto, peaking at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100. The sensual number, produced by superteam Jermaine Dupri and Brian Michael Cox, Pressure borrows the bassline from Shirley Brown’s 1977 single, Blessed Is The Woman, and sees Lennox mellow vocals slide over a bouncy, playful groove.
Pressure is Lennox’s way of paying homage her predecessors, revered soul divas Diana Ross and Donna Summer, which she seamlessly achieves the more in the spectacle of a retro-inspired music video directed and lensed by Chandler Lass. It is no mean feat channeling two iconic singers who also are widely deemed sex symbols of their era, but Lennox does it effortlessly, so much so that they would approve.
Pressure has catapulted Lennox’s mainstream ascent, heralded by the release of her debut album, Shea Butter Baby, in 2019.
