Apple Music has selected Kenyan singer, songwriter and vocalist Polaris to be it’s Up Next artist focus for East Africa dated April 17th.
Carefully picked by Apple Music’s global editors, this recognition amplifies Polaris’s music, continuing to position her as a rising star in East Africa. For the next month, Polaris will be predominantly placed on Apple Music’s Up Next playlist, amplifying her voice to reach a wider mass of music lovers across East Africa and beyond.
Upon receiving the good news, Polaris excitedly shared, “I’m so honoured to be highlighted on Apple Music’s Up Next program. I am still taking it in.” For her, to share her music with fans across the region and beyond is a dream come true. “To be included on a platform that has had so many of my favourite artists is surreal and I am grateful to be recognized for making a worthwhile contribution to East Africa music culture,” she added.
The selection came weeks after she dropped her solo EP, Tufanye? (What do we do?) which oscillates between various emotions in romantic relationships like love, anger, pride and lust. ‘Tufanye?’ is Polaris’ take on neo-Afro R&B featuring warm and atmospheric production from Kenyan beatsmiths Dillie, Wuod Omollo Beats, and more. On the title track ‘Tufanye?’ – she floats mesmerically on the Afro-forward record as her saccharine vocals hug the beat gracefully, while cuts like “Omera” have a more upbeat tempo. ‘Una Do’ is a sunny record that captures a lust story in real time.
Whether she is collaborating with industry giants or performing as a soloist, her honeyed R&B-soaked vocals are a delight to her fans, and her thirst for making great music is insatiable.
Apple Music’s Up Next playlist will be home for Polaris for a month, elevating her music to parts of the world that have not heard of her before.
