Akothee Responds After Her Speaking Engagement At Ng’iya Girls Was Cancelled

Singer Akothee has responded after a planned motivational speaking engagement at Ng’iya Girls was turned down last minute, eliciting various mixed reactions.

The businesswoman had early last week shared information that she would be heading to the school as part of her numerous philanthropic efforts by being a part of the school’s new project aimed at helping underprivileged students, while addressing students at the same time. Per a shared flyer, her Akothee Foundation was set to be an integral part of the project.

Things would instead take a turn when the church that runs the school objected Akothee’s invite, a development that somehow leaked on social media.

Acknowledging the occurrence, Akothee took to her Instagram and shared a screenshot of a conversation with another party, confirming that her invite was declined by the church. “Ng’iya Girls’ High School is now on the map, known globally..I will still support any cause that will leave a positive impact to our society. I will still support where I can even from where I am standing,” She wrote in part.

Addressing the church, she added: “To the Arch-Bishop, I understand where you are coming from, continue praying for us sinners so we could all meet in heaven on that day.”

Reacting to the news, Kenyans on Twitter had varying opinions. While some felt it was wrong for the church to decline the singer’s invitation, others lauded the move and deemed it right.
