NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – Casablanca is set to become the hub of African finance this November when more than 1,200 public and private sector leaders gather for the fifth edition of the Africa Financial Summit (AFIS 2025).
The two-day meeting, scheduled for November 3–4, will focus on strategies to strengthen the continent’s financial sovereignty and accelerate inclusive growth.
Organisers say the summit will address pressing issues such as mobilising institutional capital, expanding the role of pension funds and sovereign funds, financing large-scale infrastructure projects, and accelerating digital transformation.
Other discussions will explore how to strengthen Africa’s insurance market against emerging risks such as climate change and cybersecurity, while also improving regulatory coordination to unlock the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“The urgency today is to modernise our instruments and mobilise our own capital to channel it into strategic projects that consolidate Africa’s development,” said Amir Ben Yahmed, President of AFIS.
“Financial sovereignty must become the cornerstone of growth and inclusion on our continent.”
Ethiopis Tafara, IFC Regional Vice President for Africa, echoed this, saying the summit will provide a platform to explore innovative ways of financing jobs, resilience, and inclusive economic growth.
This year’s edition will draw an impressive line-up of leaders, including Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah, IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop, Bank Al-Maghrib Governor Abdellatif Jouahri, and finance ministers and central bank governors from across the continent.
Senior executives from pan-African banks and financial institutions such as Ecobank, FirstBank Group, and the African Guarantee Fund are also expected.
Moroccan institutions will be strongly represented, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to driving continental integration.
Among the participants are senior figures from the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Bank of Africa, Holmarcom Group, and the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines.
AFIS 2025 is expected to provide a strategic platform where African decision-makers and financial leaders can chart a roadmap to reduce dependence on external capital and harness local resources for sustainable development.
