Lenana Kariba is a familiar face in the Kenyan entertainment industry. He has captivated audiences with his versatile performances on TV shows such as ‘Single Kiasi’ and ‘Selina’.
In a recent interview with The Sauce, Kariba shed light on how he chooses his roles, prepares for characters, and why is he drawn to romantic comedies.
For many actors, the decision to take on a role involves more than just the paycheck or the potential exposure. For Kariba, it’s about the quality of the script. “Honestly, it starts with the script,” he says. “I get a lot of scripts, and I’ll only take on a project if I find something interesting in it.”
Despite his growing recognition, Kariba revealed that he still auditions for most roles. “People often assume I don’t [audition], but I do,” he admitted.
When preparing for roles, Kariba finds inspiration in the people around him. “I like to take different aspects of people in my life—my dad, brother, or a friend—and bring bits of them into the character. It makes the role more personal for me and enhances my performance.”
As for roles he wouldn’t take on, the father of one is open-minded. “I’m pretty open to playing most roles. I haven’t come across anything I’ve said no to yet.” His ease in romantic comedies is natural. “Rom-coms come easily to me—I’m a romantic a romantic guy.”
