Absa Bank launches custody services in Kenya, targets institutional investors

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 14 – Absa Bank Kenya PLC has officially launched its custody services business, expanding its corporate banking offering to serve fund managers, pension funds, insurance firms, and institutional investors.

The service will provide asset safekeeping, settlement for local and cross-border investments, compliance reporting, corporate action execution, and portfolio reconciliations.

Speaking at a stakeholder forum in Nairobi, Absa Corporate and Investment Banking Managing Executive James Agin said custody services are becoming a key strategic offering.

“We are investing in our customers’ stories and providing solutions that support their growth,” he said.

The bank is leveraging partnerships with global custodians like BNY Mellon, State Street, and Societe Generale, and aligning with Kenya’s Virtual Assets Policy and VASP Bill to support custody of digital assets.

With operations already live in South Africa and Mauritius, Absa plans to expand custody services to Uganda and Ghana later this year.
