50 Cent has had to change the name of his upcoming movie after a small legal tussle with Nigerian author Chinua Achebe.
The rapper/actor spent most of last year shooting a film about a football player battling cancer, but found out at the last minute that he could not call it Things Fall Apart, a title shared with Achebe’s 1958 best-seller novel.
Kenyans know Chinua Achebe well through his book, which once was used as a school course book for KCSE English Literature.
50 didn’t know about the novel that sold more than 8 million copies – obviously – and tried to buy the title through his lawyers for a cool $1m.
According to reports, he was told in no uncertain terms that the title was not for sale, even if he offered $1 billion!
The 81 year old author stood to his guns and subsequently, 50 Cent’s new movie will be released – soon – using the title “All Things Fall Apart”.
