NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has asked Governor Johnson Sakaja to prepare the city for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya supporters who will be having a massive demonstration next Monday.
With six days to the anticipated rally led by Raila Odinga to protest over the high cost of living and push for election reforms, Senator Sifuna insisted that Governor Sakaja should ensure the county is equipped with public amenities.
“Governor Sakaja should focus on preparing the City for our visitors on the 20th. We want clean public toilets, drinkable water in the CBD, our ambulances and medical facilities on standby, traffic marshalls to guide traffic and protect the visitors etc,” he tweeted.
Last week, Odinga flanked by other leaders in the coalition insisted that the Kenya Kwanza government is illegitimate, and called upon supporters to come out and participate in the protests.
He urged all workers, doctors, teachers, nurses, lecturers, students, and the business community to join in the mass action, so as to push the Ruto-led government out.
“Starting today and now I officially declare the start of mass action,” Odinga stated.
He said the mass protests would include defiance, boycotts, peaceful demonstrations, and strikes.
The Azimio brigade is accusing the leadership of President Ruto of failing to address several problems affecting the country, including the high cost of living, shortage of doctors, bad governance, and electoral injustice.
Others are tribalism in state appointments, dividing the country along religious lines, and the creation of unconstitutional and unnecessary offices overburdening the taxpayers.
“We are telling Ruto and Gachagua that we are indeed the true shareholders of this country and we have no more patience for an illegitimate regime,” the Azimio leader stated.
They have called on their supporters to boycott a number of products from certain companies, which they claim are being poorly used by the government.
