NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 25 – The U.S.–Kenya Alumni Association, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, will this weekend host the inaugural U.S. – Kenya alumni fair, celebrating six decades of exchange programs that have shaped leaders, innovators, and changemakers across the country.
The fair is expected to bring together more than 300 alumni to highlight their impact in entrepreneurship, technology, healthcare, education, governance, and climate action.
Benson Abila, Chairperson of the U.S.–Kenya Alumni Association, called the event a “historic gathering” that will not only reflect on past achievements but also spotlight the future of alumni contributions.
“This fair is not just a celebration of history, it’s a showcase of the future. For 60 years, alumni of U.S. exchange programs have been at the forefront of driving innovation and social change in Kenya,” said Abila.
One of the highlights will be the unveiling of “60 alumni stories”, a showcase of groundbreaking enterprises and initiatives led by alumni whose work is shaping Kenya’s future.
The program will also feature panel discussions with industry leaders and participation from senior government officials alongside U.S. Embassy representatives.
Since the 1960s, over 8,000 Kenyans have taken part in U.S. government–sponsored exchange programs including the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Fulbright, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), TechWomen, and the Humphrey Fellowship.
Many of them have gone on to establish award-winning enterprises, launch community-driven initiatives, and hold senior positions in government and civil society.
