What happens when a fun situation, too good to pass over presents itself in a work week? Do you miss out on the fun dreading the morning after? Or do you bite the bullet and suffer through a full day of work nursing a hangover? Well, you don’t have to do either, you can have your cake and eat it.
Here’s how you dodge the splitting headache, nausea, dizziness, and shakiness after a fun soiree on a loose Tuesday or Thursday evening.

Eat
Alcohol is absorbed directly into your bloodstream faster on an empty stomach. Eating, however, slows the process down making your alcohol blood content lower. So, lay a proper foundation with a good wholesome meal. This is no time for samosas or some fries, opt for choices like meat and filling starches like ugali.
Hydrate
Alcohol dehydrates the body hence the shakiness and disorientation the morning after. Water intake throughout the night will thus drastically minimize these effects the morning after. Not to mention that water also helps pace your drinks throughout the night.
Moderation is key
Midweek soirees call for self-restraint. This is not the time to down a whole bottle of gin or six beers in order to catch up or chase a high. Instead, choose a drink that gives you a nice buzz in the least content. For example, a gin cocktail.
Stick to one drink
Mixing drinks at a night out is a recipe for disaster. It’s therefore advisable to choose your poison and stick with it through the night. Hence, decide if you want to have beers, cocktails, wine, or shots staggered with water or soda. Keep in mind that mixing can also easily lead to alcohol poisoning.
Heavy breakfast
The body consumes a lot of energy to metabolize all the alcohol consumed. Hence the reduced blood sugar level explains the fatigue, shakiness, and lethargy the morning after. That’s why a heavy breakfast works like magic. Go for a good broth with meat chunks, chicken, or beef. Alternatively, choose a filling chicken sandwich, boiled eggs, fries, or anything you might crave.
Vomit it all out
Some nights are too good to be careful which leaves the morning after enveloped in nausea. If you feel the need to puke but had nothing, chug down as much water as you can. The body is dehydrated and could take a minute to vomit everything out hence the need for water. The water will cause a reflex and that’s good. Drink until there is enough in the system to come out in the next reflex.
Catch a nap
Get into your car or a colleague’s and get some shut eye for thirty minutes straight. You will wake up feeling much better, fresh, and alive like nothing ever happened.
The worst thing that’d happen is to mess up the next day at work. Making mistakes at work and going MIA after a night out is unacceptable. Hence, it is advised that you go out when the next day’s to do list is easy, meaning no early meetings, pending jobs on tight timelines and client visits. Your job makes a lot of things possible in your life, so don’t mess it up for a good night out. Stay winning, go forth and be great.
