NAIROBI, Kenya, July 9 – Tatu City Water and Sanitation Company (TATUWASCo) has been named Best Private Utility Company of the Year and recognized for Excellence in Corporate Governance for Utility Providers in the latest Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) performance rankings.
The awards highlight TATUWASCo’s strong performance across key utility metrics such as water coverage, quality, hours of supply, non-revenue water reduction, metering ratio, staff productivity, revenue collection, and sanitation service delivery.
Speaking after the announcement, Caroline Cheptoo, Water Infrastructure Manager at Tatu City, credited long-term planning and regulatory collaboration for the win.
“These awards reflect our commitment to operational excellence, technical execution, and customer satisfaction. They belong not just to our team but also to every resident, student, and business that relies on us daily,” said Cheptoo.
Over the past decade, TATUWASCo has invested billions of shillings in building a modern water and sewerage network, including a 30-million-litre water storage tank, extensive distribution lines, and sewer systems serving homes, schools, commercial users, and industrial clients.
The utility currently serves more than 4,500 residents, 6,000 students, over 100 companies across various sectors—including beverage manufacturing, logistics, call centers, and hospitality—and more than 25,000 workers daily.
The company has now won national private utility awards for three consecutive years, reflecting its sustained focus on governance, transparency, and service reliability.
TATUWASCo is part of Tatu City’s broader infrastructure ecosystem, which includes a 135MVA power substation with 99.7% electricity uptime, a citywide water treatment plant with 24/7 potable water supply, over 70km of international-standard roads, and more than 85,000 meters of fiber-optic cabling for high-speed internet.
Looking ahead, the utility aims to scale its capacity further through smart metering technology, expanded wastewater treatment facilities, and sustainable infrastructure solutions in line with Tatu City’s urban growth.
