NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13 – Thirty public schools across Kenya are undergoing renovations worth KSh9.2 million under this year’s Spread the Love Campaign, a community outreach initiative coordinated by Mavuno Church.
The works, carried out during the August school holiday, include classroom repairs, repainting, and provision of construction materials donated by congregants and surrounding communities.
Executive Pastor for Operations, Milton Jumba, said the campaign seeks to restore dignity to public primary schools while addressing infrastructure gaps that have persisted since the 2003 introduction of free primary education.
“When the schools reopen in September, the children will be so excited to find their school environment renewed,” Jumba said, noting that the initiative targets at least 1 million hours of volunteer community service annually.
The 2025 beneficiary schools include Mlolongo Primary, Thindigua Primary, Kahawa Primary, Kabete Vetlab, Lavington Primary, Moi Avenue Primary, Donholm Primary, Rongai Nakeel Primary, and Katani Primary, among others.
Moi Avenue Primary head teacher Selina Keya said the facelift will boost morale and improve academic performance, highlighting the school’s historical infrastructure challenges.
Mavuno Church leaders say the initiative operates like a public-private partnership, with congregants, communities, and organisations pooling resources to complement government funding.
“We want to be useful and add value to our communities so that when people think of the church, they think good,” said Senior Pastor Muriithi Wanjau.
