NAIROBI, Kenya, June 23 – Sidian Bank has committed Sh2 million towards the second edition of the Run 4 Seniors event, which seeks to raise funds and awareness for vulnerable elderly people across the country.
The sponsorship will support the event organised by Mama Ibado Charity and scheduled for July 18 at Karura Forest.
The annual run aims to mobilise resources for programmes focused on healthcare, nutrition and social welfare for senior citizens, particularly those living in vulnerable communities.
Organisers say the event comes at a time when Kenya’s ageing population is increasing, creating greater demand for support services for older persons who often face financial and healthcare challenges.
Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril said the funding will help expand programmes targeting elderly people and strengthen efforts to improve their quality of life.
The charity currently runs feeding, healthcare and community welfare programmes for senior citizens, with a focus on communities in Isiolo and Kakamega counties.
Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said the lender’s support aligns with efforts to promote inclusion and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups.
This year’s event is expected to attract corporate sponsors, development partners, community organisations and individual participants. It will feature 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories.
The initiative highlights growing involvement by private sector firms in supporting social programmes aimed at addressing the needs of Kenya’s elderly population.
