NAIROBI, Kenya, June 30 – Commercial International Bank (CIB) Kenya has appointed Tirus Mwithiga as its Chief Executive Officer following regulatory approval.
The lender says it is betting on the seasoned banker to drive its next phase of growth in Kenya’s competitive banking sector.
Mwithiga takes over leadership as banks continue to invest in digital transformation, retail expansion and corporate banking amid shifting customer demands and a changing regulatory environment.
“Mr. Mwithiga brings more than 35 years of banking experience and assumes leadership at a pivotal time for CIB Kenya as the Bank deepens its market presence and sharpens its execution against long-term strategic priorities,”said the lender in a statement.
The appointment comes after CIB Kenya said it recorded improved profitability, maintained a strong capital position and continued expanding its business during the 2025 financial year, with momentum carrying into the first quarter of 2026, although it did not disclose financial figures.
The bank said Mwithiga’s priorities will include expanding its retail banking franchise, strengthening corporate and commercial banking operations, investing in technology and developing its workforce.
“His vision for the Bank centers on Retail business, corporate & commercial banking, technology and people, supported by brand, risk and governance, while leveraging on the shared services model with the parent company, building a high-performance institution that is responsive to evolving customer needs and the broader economic landscape.”
Mwithiga’s appointment comes as lenders continue to reposition their leadership teams to navigate heightened competition, evolving customer expectations and increased investment in digital financial services.
