NAIROBI, Kenya, June 29 – I&M Bank Kenya has chosen Abdi Mohamed, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Absa Bank Kenya, as its new CEO, pending approvals from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
The appointment comes just hours after Mohamed ended a 32-year career at Absa Bank Kenya, where he rose through the ranks to become CEO and Managing Director (MD).
Before leading Absa Bank Kenya, Mohamed served as MD and CEO of Absa Bank Tanzania, where he oversaw the lender’s transition from the Barclays brand to Absa.
He also previously held senior leadership positions as Chief Operating Officer at Barclays Bank Kenya and Retail and Business Banking Director in Kenya and Zambia.
Commenting on the appointment, I&M Group Executive Director Sarit Raja-Shah said the board was confident Mohamed would lead the bank’s next phase of growth.
