NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 5 — Police in Molo, Nakuru County, have launched a manhunt for a man suspected of killing his 18-year-old girlfriend inside her family home.
The victim was found dead inside the house in Kiambaa area, Moto Location, on Sunday after her brother returned from a trip to a nearby shop, according to a police report.
Police said the brother had left the victim alone at home before discovering her body on his return.
Officers from Molo Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to the scene, where they found the Form Four student dead in the kitchen.
Police said she had suffered severe injuries and that several weapons, including an axe, panga, and two knives, were recovered at the scene with blood stains.
Investigators also recovered Wangui’s severed head elsewhere in the house, according to the police report.
Preliminary investigations have identified her boyfriend as the main suspect.
Police said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and remained at large as of Monday.
The report said investigators found a message written on a wall at the scene, which police attributed to the suspect.
The motive for the killing had not been established, and police had not reported any arrest.
Detectives processed the scene and moved Wangui’s body to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police have since launched an operation to trace and arrest the prime suspect as detectives from DCI Molo continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The case comes amid continued concern over violence against women and girls, with investigators expected to establish the circumstances leading to the fatal attack and the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
