Nairobi, Kenya, Nov 26 – Police in Nairobi have arrested 16 suspected muggers from their hideout within Embakasi’s Transami area.
The National Police Service (NPS) says that its detectives recovered one toy pistol, 37 knives, 3 pangas, and 2 hammers during the Friday operation.
Other items recovered include 158 rolls of bhang, 2 litres of chang’aa (illicit liquor), and 10 Kenya Power meter boxes, suspected to have been stolen.
“We appreciate the unwavering support and partnership with National Government Administration Officers and members of the public who immensely contributed to the success of this operation,” said the NPS.
The arrest comes at a time when security agencies within the city have stepped up their fight against crime following a public outcry on increased crime rates within the Capital.
Four days ago, detectives arrested six suspected muggers in Mathare slums.
The six aged between 20-26 years were smoked from their hideout in Mathare 1 area by police officers who were on patrol.
The NPS revealed that the suspects were found in possession of 8 rolls of bhang, 4 knives.
NPS reiterated its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the city that has recently witnessed an increase in criminal activities.
“The NPS remains unrelenting in the protection of life and property as security operations in various parts of the country intensify,” the police service said.
“This comes after the Inspector General, Mr. Japhet Koome recently issued a stern warning to crime syndicates in Nairobi and across the country to either desist from crime or else face the full force of the law,” a statement issued NPS on Tuesday outlined.
