NYERI, Kenya, Apr 9 – Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga and officials of Kenya Primary Sports Association have called on the Ministry of Education to merge primary and junior games in order to create cohesion.

Speaking during commencement of Primary School National Games at Giakanja Secondary School in Nyeri, Kahiga said it’s wrong for ministry to separate games among school going children and category them differently.

“It’s wrong for ministry to divide these games and holding them in separate venues these are children who live together in schools since junior secondary is domiciled in primary,” said Kahiga.

Kahiga’s sentiments were echoed by David Ochieng, who is the chair of the association saying that the school are a family and as such no one should divide them along their stages.

Currently junior secondary athletics competition is being held at Machakos county while their lower primary games is in Nyeri.

During the event, Kahiga urged Ministry of Education to also increase funding of the games saying that their success depends on proper preparations.
