NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 24 – Three suspects linked to a botched highway robbery along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway have been arrested by detectives in Mtito Andei.
The suspects are believed to have been part of a gang that staged a fake roadside emergency near Mutomo on May 6, before allegedly attempting to hijack a transit driver’s car at gunpoint.
During a struggle, the gang’s firearm discharged, fatally shooting one of the attackers, identified as Gift Musau. His accomplices fled on a motorcycle.
Detectives arrested Alex Mueti Kasina and Stephen Kalungo Joel at a hideout in Kinyambu on Friday, August 21.
The following day, Jamlick Muli Muasa, alias Star, was arrested at his shop, where two mobile phones were recovered. Police also found several identity cards and driving licences bearing different names at his residence.
The three are due in court today to face murder, attempted robbery with violence and unlawful possession of ammunition charges.
