NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 8 – The Mozilla Festival House (MozFest House) event, an innovative gathering focused on harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data ethics, and nurturing community-driven technological alternatives will Kick off this November.
The 3rd edition of the festivals hosted by the Mozilla Foundation will be held from November 20 to 21 at the Lusaka International Convention Center in Zambia.
The two days event themed “Collective Action for Trustworthy AI” will explore the power of AI, data, building community-centered tech alternatives and social justice in tech.
Momoe Ikeda Chełmińska, MozFest Director stated that the Festivals will focus on the transformative potential of AI and emerging technologies tailored to support Africa’s diverse communities in generating impactful public interest outcomes.
“This event embodies our commitment to tackling the most formidable challenges posed by technology through an array of perspectives, reinforcing Africa’s significant role in crafting a fair, inclusive, and human-centric digital future,” said Chełmińska, MozFest Director.
The event will bring together a rich mosaic of voices from Africa and around the globe including Angela Oduor Lungati Executive Director of Ushahidi, as a keynote speaker.
Other Keynote speakers include Dr. Chitundu Kasase, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Technology Business Center,Tendai Miti, Executive Director of Sistah Sistah, Granville Wood, Director of Open Energy Labs and Priscilla Chomba-Kinywa, Chief Technology Officer at Greenpeace.
“As digital transformation surges across Africa, MozFest House Zambia seeks to amplify local and regional voices, forging connections between global experts and grassroots leaders,” added Chełmińska, MozFest Director.
The MozFest House festival follows its inaugural event held in Nairobi last year and its successful return to Amsterdam in June 2023.
“MozFest House Zambia is not merely an event it is a clarion call for collective action It represents an opportunity to reflect on how we can collaboratively shape Africa’s digital future, centering the diverse communities and, importantly, the often unheard voices that stand to be affected,” emphasized Koliwe Majama, Senior Program Officer.
For over two decades, Mozilla has championed visionary ideas, empowered global leaders, and supported people-centered campaigns to ensure an open and accessible Internet for everyone.
Previous MozFest events have featured esteemed figures including Tim Berners-Lee, Phumzile Van Damme, Lawrence Mute, Angela Davis, Mona Chalabi, and Chris Smalls.
