King Kaka Releases New Album, “Year Of The Pen”

Kenyan rapper, storyteller, entrepreneur and cultural voice King Kaka has today released his new album, Year of the Pen, now available on all major digital streaming platforms.

The 13-track album marks King Kaka’s return with his first studio album project in several years, positioning the project as an important creative chapter for one of Kenya’s most respected hip-hop artists. Built around intentional writing, storytelling, reinvention and musical range, Year of the Pencaptures King Kaka in a renewed season: sharper with the pen, broader in sound, and fully back to business.

The album release will be followed later today by the official music video for the focus track “Naling’i Yo” featuring Okello Max. The romantic Afro-fusion record is built around the phrase “Naling’i Yo,” meaning “I love you,” and blends King Kaka’s storytelling with Okello Max’s soulful delivery. With Lingala, French, Luo, rap, R&B, trap and rumba-inspired influences, the song highlights the album’s softer, more melodic and pan-African side.

Year of the Pen was introduced by the instant-grat track “Braggadocious” featuring Iyanii, which dropped on 29th May and set the tone for the album through confidence, lyricism and penmanship. While “Braggadocious” opened the campaign with swagger and rap authority, “Naling’i Yo” now leads the album release with romance, cultural warmth and visual storytelling.

Speaking on the creative direction of the album, King Kaka says:

“Growth is a beautiful thing because you get to experience different versions of yourself. With this album, I wanted people to hear that I am back to business differently — from the writing, to the delivery, to the visuals, to the message. This is the year of the pen.”

Across the project, King Kaka moves through motivation, love, heartbreak, club energy, street storytelling, mental pressure, faith, ambition, money, survival and lyrical hip-hop. The album features a wide and carefully selected cast of collaborators, including Otile Brown, Iyanii, Fathermoh, Okello Max, Scar Mkadinali, Kipsang, Darasa, Kinoti, Vinc On The Beat, Emkay 64 and Moti The NRG.

The album opens with “Head Up” featuring Otile Brown, a motivational anthem for ghetto youth and young hustlers built around faith, resilience, hard work and the belief that one’s current situation does not define the future. “Back to Business” acts as the album’s thesis record, with King Kaka reflecting on growth, reinvention and his renewed creative identity.

“Kanashika” featuring Fathermoh brings youthful Gen Z dance energy, while “Silence” featuring Scar Mkadinali gives hip-hop fans a hard lyrical record rooted in focus, discipline and blocking out unnecessary noise. “Shang” takes listeners back to King Kaka’s Eastlands roots, paying allegiance to the hood that shaped his stories, identity and pen.

The emotional side of the album comes through on “Salome” featuring Kipsang, a heartbreak record about love that has reached its breaking point, and “Kichaa” featuring Kinoti, a playful lovesick track about the emotional intensity of love. “Don’t Stress Me” speaks to boundaries, pressure and protecting one’s peace, while “Problems Mpya” featuring Emkay 64 and Moti The NRG explores ambition, money, faith, survival and the reality that every new level brings new problems.

The project also includes “Misbehave” featuring Darasa, a feel-good East African club record, and closes with “Useless” featuring Vinc On The Beat, a raw motivational track about money, dignity, survival and the way society often judges people by financial status.

More than a rap album, Year of the Pen is a full portrait of King Kaka’s current creative season. It reflects where he comes from, what he has lived through, how he has evolved and why writing remains central to his identity.

Year of the Pen is out now on all major digital streaming platforms. The official music video for “Naling’i Yo” featuring Okello Max is scheduled to drop later today.
