NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 22 – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has predicted a strong vote for President William Ruto in the Mt Kenya region in the 2027 General Election.
Kindiki said votes would “rain” across counties in the region when Ruto and he appear on the ballot.
Speaking to grassroots leaders drawn from Mount Kenya East counties, Kindiki seemed to be responding to an assertion by his predecessor and DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua that he can deliver Mt Kenya’s 8 million votes if named the United Opposition candidate.
“These people are insulting others here, going around with a few young people, circling around in his car and saying, ‘One Term,’ and I don’t know what else. Let them wait.”
“They don’t know what kind of votes will be cast when Ruto is on the ballot and when I am on the ballot. If we failed to get votes from Mt Kenya, there was a reason. Let them wait until next year. Votes will rain like rain—votes from Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Isiolo, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Nakuru, Murang’a. Should I continue? Should I stop? They will rain,” the DP said.
The DP has further challenged political rivals to prepare for what he described as a tough contest.
“As for that vote for Ol Kalou, that was a contest between two young men who were competing there. William Ruto was not the one being voted for there. Why has that Ol Kalou vote made you so arrogant about?”
“If you won against Ol Kalou, I also won in the North. So it was one-one. It was a draw.”
“Wait for the vote that is coming, when the President and I will be on the ballot. Wait and see the political battle that is coming, my friend,” Kindiki said as he taunted his predecessor and self-declared political kingpin of the Mt Kenya Region, Rigathi Gachagua.
