NAIROBI, Kenya, July 6 – Did you know that Kenya is among the leading African nations to embrace drone technologies in various sectors?
This fact was recently revealed by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) enthusiasts in the continent during the Elevate Africa UAS Summit 2024.
According to the summit organizer, Pavan Ananth, who is the Founder & CEO of Pravesh Global, Kenya has been at the forefront of incorporating drone technology to boost innovation, diversity, and entrepreneurship across the continent.
By 2025, the value of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) is expected to reach $43 billion globally. Drone technology is expected to boom throughout Africa, with Kenya at the forefront of the continent’s drone revolution.
“In conclusion, the Summit highlighted Kenya’s leadership in the drone industry and recognized its efforts in driving innovation, diversity, and entrepreneurship across the continent,” Pavan said.
According to nominated senator Tabitha Munene, who attended the summit, drones have played a critical role in elevating critical sectors in the country, especially the health and agricultural sectors.
The senator affirmed that the government has an effective strategy that will see the smooth integration of drone technologies in other sectors of the country to elevate economic productivity.
“The government’s National Drones Strategy provides a clear roadmap for integrating drone technology across various sectors and supports drone startups and research initiatives, focusing on empowering youth and women,” she stated.
According to Anne Gitau, Director, of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority(KCAA), the authority is executing a regulatory framework that will ensure safety and regulatory compliance in the the rapidly metamorphosizing UAS industry in the country.
“Globally the UAS market is projected to grow exponentially, with estimates suggesting that it could reach a market size of $43 billion by 2025. Africa is poised to be a vital player in this growth and Kenya in particular is at the forefront of embracing these new technologies,” she said.
