NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 6 – Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka is stepping up his political mobilisation in the South Nyanza region after touring Migori County on Thursday, with the campaign set to move to Homa Bay County on Friday.
Musyoka, who is leading the Ukombozi Alliance campaign, is using the two-day tour to consolidate his political support in the Nyanza region, traditionally considered an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stronghold, as opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During his Migori visit, the former Vice-President addressed residents in Sori, where he called for unity and urged the region to embrace his agenda for national transformation.
He also invoked the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose political influence continues to shape the region, seeking to connect with an electorate that overwhelmingly supported the former opposition leader in previous elections.
The Migori leg of the tour was, however, disrupted by violence in Migori town, where suspected attackers reportedly pelted vehicles in the opposition convoy with stones, prompting police intervention and the deployment of teargas.
Despite the incident, Musyoka maintained that the disruption would not derail his political engagements, insisting that his team would continue reaching out to Kenyans.
On Friday, the Wiper leader is expected to take his campaign to Homa Bay County, with planned engagements in Oyugis and Kendu Bay.
The delegation is also scheduled to visit the mausoleum of independence hero Tom Mboya on Rusinga Island.
The tour comes as the opposition grapples with questions of unity, leadership and the search for a formidable presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
For Musyoka, the South Nyanza engagements provide an opportunity to test his appeal beyond his traditional political base and strengthen his position in the evolving opposition realignment.
