Jubilee pledges to extend NHIF cover to expectant mothers, elderly

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 26 – The Jubilee administration has pledged to expand free maternity services at all public health facilities to include government funded National Hospital Insurance Fund cover for one year for the expectant mother.

That is of course, if they’re elected for a second term.

The promise of NHIF cover, the Party has pledged, also extends to all those over 70 years of age and builds on the already existing social security programmes for the elderly.

At the launch of its manifesto on Monday, Health CS Cleopa Mailu spoke of the millions of mothers who’ve benefitted from free maternity services even as the nurses strike entered its fourth week.

And under the shadow of corruption allegations that have been leveled against the Ministry leading the US government to withdraw its administrative funding.
