NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – Low-cost carrier Jambojet has resumed daily flights between Nairobi and Entebbe after a seven-year break.
The airline operated its inaugural flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Entebbe International Airport on Thursday, marking its return to the Ugandan market.
Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa said the route will support trade, tourism and investment between Kenya and Uganda.
He said the airline had gained experience during the break, which followed challenges that affected the aviation industry, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jambojet, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, suspended its Nairobi-Entebbe flights in 2019 after about two years of operating the route.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei said the Government was committed to supporting the route and making it viable as part of efforts to grow tourism.
Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda Ababu Namwamba said demand for travel between the two countries remained strong and welcomed the resumption of flights.
He said the airline should use the break to improve its services, noting that travellers now have more options.
Aviation and Aerospace Development Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika said the Government was improving the passenger experience at JKIA through ongoing modernisation and expansion.
She urged Jambojet to make the route commercially viable and consider increasing flight frequencies as demand grows.
Mbaika also called on the airline to improve customer service to attract and retain more passengers.
