NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 27 – Indian media conglomerate Zee Entertainment Africa has introduced Zee Dunia, the first Free-to-Air (FTA) television channel in Africa, uplifting the region’s entertainment industry.
The move makes Zee Entertainment the first multinational media conglomerate to introduce an FTA channel on the continent, expanding access to premium content for Kenyan audiences.
Speaking at the launch, Somnath Malakar, CEO of Zee Entertainment—Africa & Indian Ocean Islands, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting local content creators and boosting Kenya’s media and entertainment economy through strategic partnerships and investment in talent development.
Neha Sharma, Vice President of Zee Entertainment Africa & East, noted that Kenya’s thriving media landscape made it an ideal choice for Zee Dunia’s launch.
The channel will offer holistic family viewing, featuring movies, series, and lifestyle shows, with distribution across 41 sites via PANG and Signet.
“We are excited to invest in Kenya’s creative economy, providing a platform for local storytellers while expanding access to diverse, high-quality entertainment,” Sharma stated.
Presidential Economic Advisor Edward Kisiang’ani welcomed Zee Dunia’s entry, highlighting its potential to create jobs for media professionals, content creators, and production companies while promoting cultural cohesion through family-friendly programming.
Already present in Kenya via DStv and StarTimes, Zee Entertainment reaches 50 million viewers across 50 African territories.
Zee Dunia now joins over 60 FTA channels available in Kenya, further enriching the country’s entertainment landscape.
