NAIROBI, Kenya, April 23 – Huawei Technologies Kenya has launched the 2025 edition of its Management Trainee Program (HMTP), targeting recent university graduates in science and technology fields. The launch event took place at the University of Nairobi’s Taifa Hall.
The four-month program offers participants ICT training, hands-on work experience, and industry exposure through a combination of classroom sessions and departmental rotations. Graduates who successfully complete the program stand a chance of securing full-time roles at Huawei.
First introduced in Kenya in 2018, the HMTP has trained over 200 young professionals, with 133 of them now employed by the company.
Huawei said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to support Kenya’s digital transformation agenda by developing local talent to meet evolving industry demands.
“The program bridges the gap between academic learning and the real-world needs of the ICT sector,” said Mathew Kiptoo, Huawei’s Hiring Manager for Africa. “It supports the government’s push for a digitally skilled workforce.”
University of Nairobi Director of Corporate Communications John Orindi said institutions of higher learning must adapt to changing industry trends by equipping students with relevant skills, including artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.
The event also featured testimonials from former participants, including Raymond Kipn’getich, who is now a Senior Enterprise Solutions Architect at Huawei. He credited the program with helping launch his career in the ICT industry.
The company said the application window for the 2025 intake will open soon and encouraged interested students and recent graduates to apply.
