NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 24 – HACO Industries Kenya Limited has signed a strategic partnership with Nation Media Group PLC to strengthen environmental education and youth empowerment in secondary schools across the country.
The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), integrates HACO’s Green Learning Initiative with Nation Media Group’s Newspapers in Education (NiE) programme to deliver environmental learning content alongside practical sustainability activities.
The initiative will initially roll out in 15 secondary schools, targeting learners with tailored environmental materials while encouraging hands-on engagement in recycling, tree planting, waste reduction and other stewardship activities.
Under the partnership, HACO will provide customised sustainability learning resources, support the establishment of student-led Green Guardian Clubs, and facilitate experiential environmental projects. Nation Media Group will leverage its NiE distribution network to supply newspapers and educational content, while amplifying student-led environmental stories through its platforms, including *Daily Nation* and *Taifa Leo*.
The programme also incorporates mentorship and character development components aimed at equipping students and teachers with practical sustainability knowledge and encouraging purpose-driven academic and career pathways.
A joint steering committee comprising representatives from both organisations will oversee implementation, supported by regular monitoring and evaluation to track progress and impact.
HACO Industries Managing Director said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to embedding sustainability in education. “At HACO, we believe sustainability begins with education. Through this initiative, we are intentionally investing in young people by equipping them with environmental knowledge, practical skills, and a sense of responsibility for the world they will inherit,” the MD said.
The MoU will run for an initial one-year period, with the possibility of renewal and expansion based on performance and mutual agreement. Both parties will co-brand learning materials and jointly showcase programme achievements as part of efforts to promote environmental literacy and responsible citizenship among Kenyan youth.
