NAIROBI, Kenya, October 26 – With no immediate resolution in sight to the ongoing leadership wrangles at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), delegates have convened a Special General Meeting (SGM) for November 7, 2026, to deliberate on the conduct of the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
The move comes days after FKF President Hussein Mohammed issued a notice convening an SGM reportedly aimed at expelling his deputy, McDonald Mariga, and six other NEC members amid an escalating leadership dispute.
Delegates who met during a Football Symposium nominated Nyamira County Branch Chairman Vincent Nyasani as chairman of the caucus and Trans Nzoia County Branch Chairman Isaac Munene Kuria as secretary ahead of the planned meeting.
The caucus is now calling for all NEC members, including Mohammed, to be subjected to scrutiny at the meeting and afforded an opportunity to respond to the concerns raised against them.
“As concerned members of the Football Kenya Federation, we have noted with deep concern that the persistent wrangles within the National Executive Committee (NEC) have become untenable and continue to undermine the growth and stability of our football,” Nyasani said.
He added that members had previously sought to address the dispute through a formal petition for an SGM.
“You will recall that members formally petitioned for the convening of an SGM on 18th May 2026, which request was officially received by the General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer on 22nd May 2026, as an early effort to address these challenges before they escalated,” he said.
Nyasani said the continued disagreements had persisted despite intervention and mediation efforts by international and regional football governing bodies.
“Despite the intervention and mediation efforts by FIFA, CAF and CECAFA, the wrangles have persisted. Consequently, members held a Football Consultative Forum on Saturday, 24th October 2026, to deliberate on the most appropriate measures to safeguard our beautiful game.
“At the said forum, members resolved to ensure a free, fair and transparent process for the conduct of the SGM in accordance with the FKF Constitution,” he added.
The caucus also confirmed that it had formally engaged FIFA and other relevant football stakeholders, seeking a sustainable and lawful resolution to the crisis.
Mohammed has faced mounting challenges in running the federation following a fallout with seven NEC members who have reportedly boycotted his meetings, deepening divisions within the federation’s top decision-making organ.
The seven are Vice-President Mariga, Coast representative Gabriel Mgendi, Nairobi representative Dan Shikanda, Nyanza representative Collins Kalee, Women’s representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Central representative Robert Macharia and Upper Rift Valley representative Bernard Lagat.
The November 7 meeting is expected to provide a platform for delegates to deliberate on the governance dispute and consider the way forward, as pressure mounts for an end to the prolonged divisions threatening stability within Kenyan football.
