NAIROBI, Kenya, August 23, 2026 – The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has condemned acts of violence and vandalism witnessed during and after the Super Cup match between Tusker and Gor Mahia at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday evening.

In a statement, the federation noted they were incidences of intimidation of journalists covering the event, violence as well as destruction of property.

“There is no place for violence, destruction of property, intimidation or any conduct that puts the safety of players, journalists, officials, fans, security personnel and the public at risk,” the statement read.

Furthermore, FKF condemned arbitrary use of teargas and uncalled for crowd control measures, noting that security agencies should have exercised restraint.

“FKF is also concerned by the use of tear gas and other crowd-control measures during the incidents. While security agencies have a responsibility to maintain order, such measures must be exercised with restraint, professionalism and in accordance with the law,” the federation said.

The match descended into carnage as police engaged fans in running battles, lobbying tear gas into the crowd.

Journalists covering the match also accused the police of meting their anger on them, videos on social media depicting a confrontation between a group of scribes and a number of uniformed policemen.

On the playing turf, fans poured onto the dais where Tusker were to be presented with the trophy after their 3-1 victory.

A video on social media shows Gor Mahia vice-chairperson Sally Bolo begging a group of fans not to vandalise the dais.

In their statement, FKF said they will work with relevant authorities to get to the bottom of the circumstances leading to the skirmishes, in addition to reviewing video footage.

“Any individual found to have breached FKF regulations or the law, whether a fan, club official, steward or security officer, should face appropriate action in accordance with due process. FKF will review available match footage and reports from match officials and other stakeholders as part of this process,” the statement reads.

The latest incident comes hot on the heels of the previous season where a number of matches were stopped due to crowd trouble.
