DEC 5 – Westlands, Nairobi—Erick Wilson Wafula, a renowned marketing strategist and psychologist, made headlines at the 4th Edition of the Mobile App Awards held on Thursday, December 5, at the Westlands Banquet Center. Wafula received the Leadership Excellence Award in App Strategy, recognizing his efforts and vision in promoting inclusivity in technology.
Speaking after his win, Wafula emphasized the importance of developing tech solutions that cater to neurodivergent users and people with disabilities, groups he described as “underserved” in the tech world.
“Mobile app developers and other tech developers should develop solutions that take into consideration neurodivergent users and people with disabilities,” Wafula stated. He highlighted that these groups are often overlooked throughout the app development lifecycle, from ideation and design to the go-to-market strategy.
“The reality is that this particular constituency is usually not a key user consideration during the deployment journey of an app to the market,” Wafula said. “Tech solutions should be available to everyone, especially to underserved audiences who can use them as leverage to overcome challenges hindering them from achieving their full potential. That way, they get to contribute to nation-building much better.”
In addition to the Mobile App Awards, Wafula was recently recognised as a Pacesetter in Consumer Psychology at the Pacesetter International Awards, organised by the Jubilant Stewards of Africa. He is currently affiliated to Ringier, A Swiss digital tech giant having operations across Europe and Africa. He has led marketing efforts for Ringier brands in various African countries including Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Some recognised Ringier Brands in Africa, having millions of users, include BrighterMonday in Kenya and Uganda, JobberMan in Nigeria and Ghana, ExpatDakar in Senegal, BuyRent Kenya and Pigiame in Kenya.
Wafula expressed gratitude to the event organizers, Vibrant Digital Africa, for creating a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among industry leaders. He also thanked the tech community for their support, noting the importance of inclusivity in fostering innovation and progress.
The Mobile App Awards, currently in its fourth edition, celebrates excellence and innovation in the Mobile Tech space.
