NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug. 7 – TVS Motor Company (TVSM) has introduced electric scooters in Kenya as demand for clean and efficient motorcycles grows.
The TVS iQube comes in two variants, the TVS iQube 3.5 and TVS iQube 2.2, and can travel between 75 and 115 kilometres on a single charge.
“While the overall African two-wheeler market is growing at roughly 7-10% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) through 2030, the electric two-wheeler market is growing much faster, with forecasts ranging from 15% to 25% CAGR through 2030-31,” Peyman Kargar, President, International Business, TVS Motor Company, said.
“EV penetration is still low relative to the size of the industry but the conditions are rife for its growth, and the runway promises to be extremely long.”
TVS’s launch of e-scooters comes amid dwindling demand for fuel-powered motorbikes, which are expensive to run amid soaring fuel prices.
Currently, the firm sells petrol-powered bikes, which are popular in the boda boda sector as well as for deliveries and personal errands.
The TVS iQube will be available through Car & General dealerships in Kenya and will be supported by a two-year or 30,000-kilometre warranty.
