NAIROBI, Kenya, June 19 – The Ministry of Defence has emerged as the best-performing ministry in the 2024/2025 Performance Contracting Evaluation, underscoring its efforts to improve efficiency, accountability and service delivery in the public sector.
The recognition was announced during the inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference held at the Kenya School of Government, where President William Ruto presented the award to Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru and Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics Peter Limo.
The award recognizes the ministry’s performance in implementing government priorities through strengthened institutional efficiency, enhanced service delivery and adherence to results-based management under the national performance contracting framework.
Speaking after receiving the award, Tuya said the recognition reflects the ministry’s commitment to delivering measurable results while maintaining high standards of accountability and operational effectiveness.
She noted that the achievement demonstrates the ministry’s success in aligning its operations with broader government development goals and public service reforms.
The conference, organized by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission under the theme “Productivity for Fiscal Sustainability and Efficient Service Delivery,” brought together senior government officials and public sector leaders to discuss ways of improving productivity and service delivery.
Tuya said the discussions highlighted the role of productivity and performance in accelerating national development and improving outcomes for citizens.
The award comes as the government intensifies reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and performance across ministries, departments and agencies.
The Defence Ministry credited the recognition to the efforts of military and civilian personnel, saying their professionalism and dedication have helped strengthen institutional excellence, operational readiness and service delivery.
The ministry said it will continue pursuing innovation, discipline and continuous improvement to sustain high performance standards in the execution of its mandate.
