NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 1 – The Directorate of Criminal investigations(DCI) has published names and photos of 3 suspects believed to be part of a gang that attacked and killed a teacher and a police officer in Mahero area Siaya county.
Edwin Omondi alias Rashid, Simon Ochieng Ouma alias Ali Baba and Edward Munyama Wakanga alias Ramadhan the leader of the criminal gang both attacked and killed the teacher and the police officer who were supervising the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) on November 20 2023.
The DCI has urged members of the public to share any information that can lead to the arrest of the 3 Suspects who are on the run.
“The National Police service is appealing to the members of the public to share information to the nearest police station or through the hotline number 0800722203 to report anonymously about the presence of the individuals in their localities,” read a statement published online by the DCI.
DCI stated that the police have reached out to the International Criminal Police Organization(INTERPOL) and are extending the investigations to the neighboring countries.
“The police are extending the investigations to the neighboring countries. They have already reached out to INTERPOL to assist in apprehending the suspects,” the statement added.
According to the DCI, Edward Munyama Wakanga alias Ramadhan and Abu Naiyah the criminal gang leader hails from Mung’ao B village in Gangu location within Siaya county.
“Edward was a fisherman at Ogangara beach and the leader of the criminal gang based in Hawinga area in Siaya.He is the mastermind of the plot to attack the teacher and police officer on the material day,” the DCI noted.
The DCI stated that Edwin Omondi alias Rashid, a member of the criminal gang hails from Hawinga area within Uranga in Siaya county responsible for a series of attacks within Siaya Kisumu and Busia counties.
“Simon Ochieng Ouma alias Ali Baba,Hassan and Obas is a resident of Uhunyi area within Uranga in Siaya. He is also linked to criminal activities in Baba Dogo area in Nairobi,” the DCI stated.
